Terms of Service

By using splitt, you agree to these terms.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and splitt labs private limited, the company behind splitt. By installing, accessing, or using splitt, you accept these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use splitt.

The Terms refer to other documents that are part of this agreement: our Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, and Security overview. Together, they govern your use of the service.

Eligibility.

• You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract under Indian law.
• You must have a valid Indian phone number for OTP-based sign-in. International sign-ins are rolling out and may be limited by region.
• You agree to provide accurate, current information when creating your account.
• If you're using splitt on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

Keep it yours.

• Your account is tied to your phone number. Don't share access; biometric lock is built in.
• You're responsible for everything that happens under your account — including splits, settlements, and invitations you send.
• Notify us immediately at hello@splitt.app if you suspect your account is compromised.
• We may suspend or limit your account if we reasonably suspect fraud, money laundering, or harm to others. We'll tell you why, except when law forbids it.

What you can't do.

splitt is a record-keeping and payment-coordination tool for friends, flatmates, trip-mates, and small groups. You agree not to use splitt to:

• Conduct business transactions, escrow, lending, or any regulated financial activity beyond personal expense splitting.
• Move funds for illegal purposes — money laundering, terrorist financing, tax evasion, or transactions prohibited by Indian law.
• Harass, threaten, or send abusive messages to other users. (We have zero tolerance for this.)
• Spam invites to people not in your real social circle.
• Reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with splitt; bypass rate limits; or build derivative apps off our APIs without permission.
• Misrepresent who paid for what to extract money from another user.

splitt is not a bank.

splitt does not hold, move, or process funds. When you settle a split:

1. We generate a UPI deep-linksplitt sends a UPI intent containing the recipient's UPI handle, the amount, and a transaction note — to your chosen UPI app.
2. Your UPI app moves the moneyThe actual transfer happens between your bank and theirs, through the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) UPI rails. splitt does not touch this transfer.
3. We reconcileIf your bank app shares the UPI reference (UTR) back to splitt, we auto-mark the split as settled. If it doesn't, you mark it manually — same as a cash payment.

This means splitt is not a Payment System Operator under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007. We don't require RBI authorization, because we never come between you and your bank. Any failed transfer, reversal, or dispute about the payment itself is between you, the recipient, your banks, and NPCI.

Paid plans.

splitt is free to use for unlimited groups and members. Splitt Pro unlocks: receipt OCR, recurring splits, smart-settle simplification, trip mode (multi-currency), advanced insights, and priority support.

• Renewals charge automatically to your stored payment method. Turn off auto-renew anytime in Settings → Subscription.
• Prices include 18% GST. Tax invoices are available in Settings → Billing.
• We may revise Pro pricing with at least 30 days' notice. Existing subscribers keep their price for the current billing cycle.

You own your data. We host it.

Expenses, receipts, notes, profile photos, and anything else you put into splitt remain yours. By using splitt you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, copy, and display this content only as needed to run the service for you and the people you're splitting with. The licence ends when you delete the content (or your account).

You confirm that anything you upload (receipts, photos, names) you have the right to share — and that it doesn't violate someone else's privacy or copyright.

splitt's brand and software.

The splitt name, the split-disc logo, the app's UI, the source code, and the underlying systems are owned by splitt labs private limited and protected by Indian and international IP law. You get a limited, revocable, non-transferable licence to use the app for personal, non-commercial use. You don't get the right to:

• Copy, modify, or create derivative works of splitt.
• Use the splitt logo, name, or visual identity in your own products.
• Resell, sublicense, or rent the app.

Bug reports, ideas, and feedback you send us are gratefully received. By sending them, you grant us a perpetual licence to use them without owing you anything — but we'll often credit you publicly if we ship a feature you suggested.

What we promise, and what we don't.

splitt is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but to the maximum extent permitted by law, we don't warrant that:

• It will be uninterrupted, bug-free, or always available.
• Calculations will always be free of error — please review every split before paying.
• It will be compatible with every device or every other app.

Our maximum aggregate liability for any claim relating to splitt is the greater of ₹2,000 or the amount you paid us for splitt in the 12 months before the claim arose. We're not liable for indirect or consequential losses (lost profits, lost goodwill, lost data) except where law forbids that exclusion.

None of this limits liability that cannot be excluded under Indian law — including for fraud, gross negligence, or death/personal injury.

How this ends.

• By you: any time, from Settings → Account → Delete account. We hard-delete within 30 days (see the Privacy Policy for the few exceptions).
• By us: with notice, for breach of these Terms; immediately, for fraud, illegal activity, or abuse of other users.
• On termination, your right to use splitt ends. Pro refunds (if applicable) follow the Refund Policy.

Where we sort things out.

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or splitt will be:

1. First, raised with us at legal@splitt.app — we'll respond within 14 days.
2. If unresolved, escalated through our Grievance Officer (see Contact).
3. If still unresolved, referred to arbitration in Bangalore under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, by a sole arbitrator we mutually appoint.
4. The courts at Bangalore have exclusive jurisdiction over any matter not subject to arbitration.
